A father’s day update

On June 15th 2004 the OB decided to admit Laura for an induction. We arrived and were checked in around 7:30 PM and they started doing blood work and initial work ups. During this time they became concerned over Laura’s Blood Pressure and put her on Magnesium Sulfate. A couple pills to soften the Cervix, a sleeping pill and later some Sta-dol(spelling?) and Laura slept all night soundly while I tossed and turned on an uncomfortable and small couch.
In the morning they decided to start the Pitocin. This is the medication that actually starts contractions. After more Sta-dol, and eventually an epideral and even more waiting, around 7:00 they decide that Laura is fully dialeted. At this time the nurse proceeds to explain that most first time mothers on epidurals take on average 3 hours to push. She goes on to say that if you get mad and actually push like you want him out of you, he will come out quicker. We are very happy to hear that we are going to make it to the pushing stage as all day it had been planned that she wouldn’t make it and would become a c-section.
The doctor examines her.. and we start pushing…
15 minutes later, they are paging the doctors, all of them had gone away from the room expecting it to take a couple of hours, and they run into a head poking out. The OB quickly gets set up just in time to catch Matthew.
Now.. When I say catch Matthew. I mean that literally. See Laura was pushing so well, that no only did she get him out in 20 – 25 minutes instead of the expected 3 hours, she also launched him like you see in the movies. The doctor had to catch him like a wet football. He almost fumbled matthew a few times but all was well… I cut the cord and they got Matthew all cleaned up.
For those of you that are wondering about the beauty of it all? Don’t… It is a wonderful thing the birth of your child. But it is also a gross thing. What makes it worst is this is the person that you are supposed to be in love with and to see them in that state is not a good thing.
During the clean up I stood there holding his little hands and then the weight in.. The nurse is praying that he isn’t over 4kg as that puts them at a risk of diabetes.. and of course.. he was… 9lbs 5.4 ounces… Let me repeat.. 9lbs 5.4 ounces was pushed out in 20 – 25 minutes on a first time mother with an epideral.
So they clean Laura up, Clean Matthew Up, And give him to me to hold for a bit while they finish on Laura and then I give him over. This is when we discovered that the Grandmothers had been sneaking closer and closer to the room down the hall the entire time. They just couldn’t stay away in the waiting room. By the time they were allowed in they had baby stepped the entire way to the room and were standing just outside the door.
The next couple of days were spent with Laura sleeping, me taking care of Matthew, and Matthew getting a Tan in the nursery because his blood type was B and his mothers was O which made him have some kind of BilliRubin Sandwich count issue… They took Laura off of the Magnesium Sulfate and the next day she was up and walking and they came home on Friday.
Having Matthew home has been a great experience. It’s amazing how long you can just hold him and stare into his big blue eyes, I’m sure they will change soon, without any distractions.. One day I caught myself staring into his eyes and watching him sleep for 2 hours…
Too finish with the update. The above picture is Matthew this morning wearing my father’s day gift from him… Be sure to check the gallery often over the next couple of days as I continue to add more and more pictures.

Matthew Joseph Ross
Born 6/16/2004 at 19:50 in Boca Raton, Fl.
Weight is 9 pounds 5.4 ounces
Well, Laura and I had Matthew today. It’s amazing how much different it is when it is your son you are holding instead of just another relatives baby. The birth was pretty uneventful except for some blood pressure issues and both baby and mother are fine now. Father needs to crawl in bed though and ge a good rest though before going back to the hospital in the morning.
And yes, I’m extremely excited and will write more once I have a chance.
Such an Inducing offer…

We moved our doctors appointment to today just to be on the safe side to see matthew and make sure everything is ok. They checked his fluids and he is A-Ok… The doctor also checked the wife out and if she doesn’t let go of matthew by next tuesday he will induce and we will have matthew here by wednesday at the latest.
Of course we all want matthew to come naturally so everyone come on over so we can bounce up and down on the wife’s belly to help matthew hurry on out the chute..
144 miles

Well, laura and myself just bought a brand new 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. It’s a great car with the stow-and-go seating. At this time it has 144 miles on the odometer and it’s already parked back at the dodge dealership… See, my wife has already wrecked it. No more needs to be said except she was at fault for hitting another car and causing our car to now be at the colision center for an estimate.
For those that care, yes she is fine and I was not in the car. Maybe now she will learn to pay more attention to the road.
No more computers

All I want to do right now is sit down and watch my two new movies, Commando and Predator… I’ve done nothing but run around and work on computers all day today. I am tired of dealing with computers today:
- Started off with trying to figure out what was wrong with one of my machines that was not booting up ever since the wife moved it. After a long troubleshooting with it, I decided it had to be the power supply as nothing was spinning up at all, even after removing everything.
- Then off to a clients office to finish the setup of the software from hell. I got everything now set how the “Programmer” says it has to be so any more problems and its his issue.
- Left there and then went to Best Buy to buy a new power supply.
- While I was out there I had to work on father in laws computer. Discovered that the power button wasn’t working anymore so I had to cut a pen apart to add a plastic penis to the backside of the button so it would push in far enough to the recessed button.
- After that was finished I came home, took the entire Computer apart, re-assembled it and everything was working.
- I finished with installing new surge protectors on the stereo system and computer systems.
Ok time to stop whining and start Commando….
Predator

One possible Father Day gift from my yet to be born son:
Shoulder mounted energy weapon that projects a red triangle at whatever I am looking at and will fire a high power energy shot on command.
That is all
Sully, I lied..

Much better now…
I’ve got some Arnold one liners in after watching Commando and I feel all calm and relax now.. At least, as calm as one can be while their stomach is in knots from the Extra Hot Lazy Wings they ate earlier.
I just got to say though that buying the old Arnold movies on DVD are great. So far I have purchased the running man, commando, and predator. All of which I had on VHS at one point or time but the DVD versions just blow them away. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not “NEW” to dvd’s.. Just in the remastering and redistribution of the older movies I think is where DVD’s shine the most. In most cases the dvd version on a good tv is the best quality these movies have ever been seen in. At least I can speak for running man and commando so far, watching them on DVD is like watching them for the first time.
All I’ve got to say is.. Sully, remember when I promised I would kill you last…. I Lied.
