More Buddhist Wisdom for yall

by on Sep.29, 2003, under My personal dribble

You asked for it, well not really, but here it is.. a little more buddhist wisdom that floated into my mail box today.

************

What is the self? If something is true, is real, is constant, is a foundation of a nature that is unchanging, this can be called the self. For the sake of sentient beings, in all the truths I have taught, there is such a self. This, monks, is for you to cultivate.

One Soul to the highest bidder

by on Sep.26, 2003, under My personal dribble

So I decided to go ahead and get a price for my soul, just to see if it would really be worth it to sell it or not. Luckily enough there is a place called We Want Your Soul that will purchase souls and they will even give you a Quote Online

I filled out all of the quote information and this is what I found out:

Your soul is worth

More Budhist Wisdom…

We add to our pains…

We also often add to our pain and suffering by being overly sensitive, over-reacting to minor things, and sometimes taking things too personally.

Movable Type Again…

by on Sep.24, 2003, under My personal dribble

Well, I’ve been testing out my movable type script and it seems to work fine so far. It’s posting entries to livejournal within 5 minutes of me typing them into movable type.. The next step should be to actually clean up the code, comment it up so that people can make necessary changes to it and let anyone who wants it have it..

What is it you ask?
It is a perl script that scans your movable type database for new entries, when it finds them, it posts them to LJ via XML_RPC. When the post is successful it updates the database. If not, it tries again in five minutes.

Life’s Update

by on Sep.22, 2003, under My personal dribble

Today has been relatively boring at work. There hasn’t been much of anything happening and I’ve been totally slacking off. I realized how much I’ve been slacking the other day and now I’m wanting to start getting busy again and trying harder.

One of the things I’ve been slacking on is this script that I wrote a few weeks ago to test services. I got to the point where it tested everything fine, just it wouldn’t quit if the service was not responding, I have a bunch of ideas of ways to fix the issue, but I haven’t had the motivation to get in there and test them.

I got distracted from that project when I had to upgrade a bunch of services and install a bunch of modules on our department’s server to get the monitoring software running properly.

One thing I do need to work on more is to start making sure that my primary responsibility is covered before I do these side jobs.

In other news, things are getting busy again.. Got my appointment with the oral surgeon on Wednesday, same day as departmental meeting, unfortunatly he’s not pulling the wisdom teeth on that day, he’s just going to examine them. I wish they would pull these things already, I am in various levels of pain and discomfort from these all the time. Some days the pain is slight and sometimes it’s crippling.

I’ve got to finish the drainage system I designed for the patio so that we can keep it a bit cleaner and maybe install a fountain on tuesday before neighbors come over for some grilled sausages.. I still need to figure out what side dish I’m going serve with them. I was thinking about potato gnocchi.

Buddhist Wisdom for the day

by on Sep.21, 2003, under My personal dribble

The Buddha was invited by a Brahman to have a meal in his house. But when he arrived, the Brahman greeted him strangely, with a torrent of abuse.

Politely, the Buddha asked, “Do visitors come to your home, good Brahman?”
“Yes.”
“What preparations do you make for them?”
“We get ready a great feast.”
“What happens if they don’t arrive?”
“Then we gladly eat it ourselves.”

“Well, Brahman, you’ve invited me for a meal and you’ve entertained me with hard words. I want nothing from your preparation. So please take it back and eat it yourselves.”

“Never retaliate in kind,” the Buddha told his followers. “Hatred does not come to an end through hatred but can only cease through generosity.”

Moving to Movable Type

by on Sep.20, 2003, under My personal dribble

In an effort to move away from the Dependency on Live Journal for my online journal, I have installed movabletype on Far2wise.net

At this time I am working on a system to automatically update my regular LiveJournal with my movable type entries.

Friday Five

by on Sep.12, 2003, under My personal dribble

1. Is the name you have now the same name that’s on your birth certificate? If not, what’s changed?

Yes, born and raised with the same name as I wear today.

2. If you could change your name (first, middle and/or last), what would it be?

I always wanted to get rid of the first name, it was such a burden growing up, now I don’t mind it but would consider changing my last name to be more ethnic.

3. Why were you named what you were? (Is there a story behind it? Who specifically was responsible for naming you?)

Tradition, First Born males must have the name of names

4. Are there any names you really hate or love? What are they and why?

Not really. I really like the name of Lauren.

5. Is the analysis of your name at kabalarians.com accurate? How or how isn’t it?

It is very accurate.
